Yuri Latpov went to school at Novosibirsk State University from1968-1973. He completed his post-graduate studies from 1973-1976 at Institute of Geology and Geophysics, Novosibirsk. In 1976 he completed his PhD in Geology. He was a senior researcher for the Institute of Marine Biology, Vladivostok in 1976 and a Chief of Laboratory Benthos Ecology, for the Institute of Marine Biology in 1979. He completed his Doctoral for Biology from the Paleontological Institute, Moscow in 1989. In 2007 he was the Vice Director Far East State Biosphere Marine Reserve, Vladivostok.
