He obtained his PhD from the Maharshi Dayanand University, Rohtak, India while working in the laboratory of Professor Baishnab C Tripathy, Jawaharlal Nehru University in 2012. His interests span from chlorophyll biosynthesis, chloroplast biogenesis, abiotic stresses, osmolytes protection, tissue culture, secondary metabolites production, biofertilizers and biopesticides to protected cultivation and hydroponics. During his PhD, he investigated the effect of drought on photosynthesis and Chlorophyll biosynthesis. For his postdoctoral studies, he joined the laboratory of Prof Zach Adam, The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Israel and Prof Ziv Reich, Weizmann Institute of Science, Israel as co-guide. His research there focused on understanding chloroplast biogenesis in tomato shoot apical meristem (SAM) through RNA sequencing of laser microdissected samples. Here his three year postdoctoral work was supported by PBC fellowship from the Government of Israel. During 2015-16, Vijay worked on protection of enzymes from oxidative stress by proline in-vitro, at Central University of Hyderabad, Telangana. He also worked for around 1.5 years at Bharat Biotech, Hyderabad, Covaxin manufacturing company. He joined as an Assistant Professor (Guest) at Department of Botany, Dayalbagh Educational Institute, Agra in 2019 and working there since then. He has published several papers in prominent plant journals e.g. Plant Cell and Environment. Scientific Reports, Molecular Biology Reports. Dr Vijay also published several book chapters with reputed publishers. He is a reviewer of many reputed journals e.g. Photosynthetica, 3Biotech, Food & Function, IJBB, Acta Physiologiae Plantarum and JPBB.
