Dr. Sengottuvelan Murugan earned his PhD in Biochemistry in November 2006 from Annamalai University, India.
Dr. Murugan began his career in cancer research, when he joined the PhD program (graduate) and he was the first recipient of a Lady Tata Memorial Trust (LTMT) Senior Research Fellowship (SRF) at Department of Biochemistry and Biotechnology, Annamalai University, for the full two years (2003-2005). After his PhD, his novel research theme was approved and he was awarded with a prestigious Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) Postdoctoral Fellowship for foreign researchers to conduct research at Hokkaido University, Sapporo, Japan. There, Dr. Murugan was appointed as a co-investigator for one of the project funded by INSA (Indian National Science Academy – JSPS. In 2009, he moved to United Sates to do research at Rutgers University, New Jersey. In US, he received prestigious awards such as “Gallo Award” for two times (2012 & 2103) from Cancer Institute of New Jersey for outstanding cancer research.
Dr. Murugan has been elected as a member of the American Association of Cancer Research (AACR), and the American Association of Immunologists (AAI). Throughout Dr. Murugan’s many years of cancer research, he has given countless presentations at scientific meetings, seminars, and conferences in many countries including India, Japan, and the United States. He has published more than 25 research articles in peer-reviewed journals including Carcinogenesis, Cancer Research, Glycobiology, Journal of Immunology, and Journal of Biological Chemistry, with more than 5 collaborators from different nations, 23 research abstracts, an invited review and 3 book chapters, each composed with his characteristic precision. His articles have collectively been cited a total of 580 times with the h-index of 14 (Google Scholar) with a robust impact factor. Dr. Murugan is serving on the editorial boards of several journals, including Pharmaceutical Biology, International Journal of Cancer Research, International Journal of Pharmacology, Trends in Medical Research, Cancer Research and Management, and as an editorial board member of the International Journal of Nutrition, Pharmacology, Neurological Diseases and Wyno Academic Journals. Over the past 3 years, Dr. Murugan has worked with and closely supervised summer trainees, undergraduate, and graduate students for their successful completion of research projects, and brought a passion for discovery to high scholarly standards.
