Dr. Saravanan Ramachandran, PhD., secured his doctorate in Marine Biotechnology from the Faculty of Marine Sciences, Center for Advanced Studies in Marine Biology, Annamalai University, Tamil Nadu, India in 2010. He was the recipient of the Senior Research Fellowship from Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), New Delhi, India and SRF from Centre for Marine Living Resource and Ecology (CMLRE), Kochi, Kerala, India. His immense interest in marine research was evident from his participation in the cruise #279 of FORV SAGAR SAMPADA expedition and covering 2560 Nautical miles along the East coast of India. His thrust research area encompasses marine glycobiology and bioactive compounds from marine sources. The highlights of his research work pertain to isolation and purification of glycaosaminoglycans, proteoglycans, glycopeptides, polyphenols, from the marine sources. From his research experience and concurrence, he has published more than 25 research publications in peer reviewed journals. He has also authored and coauthored 6 book chapters in indexed international publications such as Elsevier, Springer, Taylor and Francis, NOVA publications, etc. He is also an active reviewer for indexed journals such as Carbohydrate Polymers, International Journal of Biological Macromolecules, Applied Biochemistry and Biotechnology, etc. From his research findings, he has deposited a gene sequence in Pub Med and has also filed an Indian patent in 2013. He serves as a life time member of the International Neurotoxin Association (INA) 2015, member of Association of Pharmacy Professionals (APP), India.
Presently, he focuses on isolation of bioactive macromolecules from marine sources and screens them for their therapeutic effects on cancer, neurological and cardiovascular diseases in primates and zebra fish model.
