Ronan Batista was born in 1973 in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais State, Brazil, where he completed his B.Sc. (Pharmacy, 1994), M.Sc. (Organic Chemistry, 1997) and Ph.D. (Pharmaceutical Sciences, 2005) degrees at the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG) supervised by Dr. Alaíde Braga de Oliveira. He took doctoral (2003-2004) and post-doctoral (2014-2016) stages respectively at the University of Salamanca, Spain, under supervision of Prof. Arturo San Feliciano, and at the University of Dundee, U.K., under Prof. Alan H. Fairlamb's supervision. From 1999 to 2012, he acted as Organic Chemistry lecturer at the Department of Basic Sciences (DEBI) of the State University of the Southwest of Bahia (UESB), and since November 2012 he has been working as Professor at the Department of Organic Chemistry, Institute of Chemistry, Federal University of Bahia (UFBA), in Salvador, Bahia State, Brazil. His current research interests are mainly focused on natural products and derivatives active against neglected diseases and malaria.
