Ricardo Aguilar-López was born in Mexico City, Mexico. He received the Sc. D. degrees from the Universidad Autónoma Métropolitana, Mexico, in chemical engineering and automatic control from the Centro de Investigación y de Estudios Avanzados (CINVESTAV).
