Upon moving to Florida in 2009, Ramswell embraced a new challenge: running for City Council in March 2014. In July 2014, Ramswell was appointed by Florida Senate President Don Gaetz to serve on the Board of Directors of the Senate Committee for Veterans and, in 2016, was elected by the city council to serve as Mayor Pro Tem. Ramswell was reelected to a second four-year term in 2018, and was subsequently reappointed by fellow council and Mayor to serve as Mayor Pro Tem through 2020.
