NICOLAI POPOV is a theoretical particle and nuclear physicist. He received his PhD from the Ioffe Physico-Technical Institute of Petersburg, Russia (PhTI) in 1966 and DSc from the Petersburg Nuclear Physics Institute (PNPI) in 1984. He worked as an associate research scientist at PhTI and leading scientist at PNPI. In 1992, he joined the Section Physics of the Ludwig-Maximilians-University in Munich, Germany, as a professor. His publications include 200 articles devoted the theoretical consideration of particle correlations in beta decay and muon capture physics, deep-inelastic processes within the framework of various field-theory models and mesic atomic processes in hydrogen isotope mixtures related to the possible energetic problems. He authored the book, "Muon Physics." He was awarded the Volkswagen-Stiftung grant.
