Professor Dr. Nehaluddin Ahmad is currently serving as senior professor of law at Sultan Sharif Ali Islamic University (UNISSA), Brunei. He has been ranked among the world’s top 10 legal scholars according to the 2025 AD Scientific Index. He is placed 10th globally in the field of law and legal studies and ranks first in Asia. Professor Ahmad has authored over 300 research publications, and his work has significantly influenced judicial decisions in various courts, including the Malaysian High Court, the Supreme Court of Australia, and the Supreme Court of India. His legal insights have also played a role in key policy discussions within the European Commission and the European Parliament’s Special Committee on Bitcoin. Beyond the courtroom and legislative settings, his scholarship has been cited by academics at prestigious institutions such as the University of Oxford, Yale University, the University of Cambridge, and Cornell University. Professor Ahmad has established himself as a globally recognized authority in legal education and research, with an academic career that spans India, Tanzania, Malaysia, and Singapore and over 15 years of dedicated service in Brunei. The nation has also acknowledged his achievements. In 2024, he received the teacher excellence award from His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, followed by the research excellence award in 2025. In terms of academic qualifications, he holds a Doctor of Laws (LL.D) and a Master of Laws from Meerut University in India, along with a Master of Laws in Information Technology and Telecom Law from the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow, United Kingdom. Additionally, he holds a Master of Laws in Administrative and Constitutional Law, a master’s degree in composite history, and a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) with Honours from Lucknow University in India. Furthermore, he has extensive professional experience, having practiced law as a member of the Indian Bar Council (UP) since 1976.
