Nargiz Nachkebia, PhD

Professor Nargiz Nachkebia received her PhD degree in 1985 and the degree of Doctor of Biological Sciences in 2006, both at Ivane Beritashvili Institute of Physiology, Georgian National Academy of Sciences. From 1973 until 2010, she held the positions of Junior Research Scientist, Senior Research Scientist, Deputy Director and Director at Ivane Beritashvili Institute of Physiology. Currently, she is the Chairwoman of the Scientific Council of Ivane Beritashvili Center of Experimental Biomedicine and the Head of the Lab of Neurobiology of Sleep-Wakefulness Cycle. Her research interests include the problems of neurophysiological and neurochemical mechanisms of the sleep-wakefulness cycle, as well as the search for new cellular targets involved in the pathophysiology of sleep disorders and their possible causal involvement in some psycho-neurological diseases and pathological states. She is the editor of three books (compilation of selected articles) and author of more than 70 articles published in Georgian, English and Russian.
