Muzaffar A. Olimov is a professor and a head of the Centre of Regional and Comparative Studies at Tajik National University, Dushanbe. He is also a scientific consultant of the Research Centre Sharq / Oriens, Dushanbe. He previously worked as research fellow at the Tajik Institute of Oriental Studies in Dushanbe, head of the Department, deputy director, chief scientific associate of the Institute of World Economy and International Relations of the Tajik Academy of Sciences. He was also founder and director of Research Centre Sharq/ Oriens (1996-2011), senior researcher and head of the Department Central and South Asia of the Institute of Language, Literature, Oriental Studies and the written heritage of the Tajik Academy of Sciences. Olimov graduated from the Tajik State University, and earned a Candidate of Science (equivalent PhD) in History at the Institute of Oriental Studies of the USSR Academy of Sciences (Moscow, 1982). He earned a Doctor Science degree (post-PhD degree at the Russian Academy of Sciences Institute of Oriental Studies (Moscow,1994). He is author of more than 200 books, articles and papers on the history and historiography of medieval India, Islam, security, migration, youth, international relations and political processes in post-Soviet Central Asia.
