Professor of the Department of Physics at the Federal University of Amazonas since 1978. He has coordinated the construction and the deployment of several scientific programs in Brazilian Amazonia. Marcílio has a Bachelor's in Physics from the University of Brasilia and Master's in Applied Physics from the University of São Paulo at the São Paulo State. He did research internships at the Oxford University (1995), England, and UNESCO (1999-2000), Paris. Marcílio has published more than 18 books and 100 scientific articles on science education, environmental physics, philosophy of nature, dynamics of nature phenomena in tropical regions, and policies of regional development in Brazilian Amazonia.
