Dr. Mala Kapur Shankardass is a nationally and internationally known sociologist, gerontologist, and health social scientist. She is a university teacher, researcher, writer and activist. She has 4 books on ageing to her credit as the author and editor. She also publishes articles, book reviews in scientific journals, newspapers, magazines and books and has a few monographs. She has chaired sessions and delivered keynote addresses at various conferences around the world. She is an editorial board member of a few international and national journals.

She consults for United Nations agencies and international and national organizations. She represents Asia for the International Network for Prevention of Elder Abuse (INPEA). Recently she was the recipient of the 2019 RS Wolf Memorial Award, an international recognition for her work in raising awareness on issues of violence, abuse and neglect of older persons and towards the protection and promotion of human rights of older persons. She has been awarded various international fellowships for her work on ageing issues.
