Leonid L. Danilov
N. D. Zelinsky Institute of Organic Chemistry, Russian Academy of Sciences.
Education: M. V. Lomonosov Moscow Institute of Fine Chemical Technologies.
Research and Professional Experience: Chemistry, technology and biological activity of natural substances, mainly carbohydrates, glycoconjugates and isoprenoids. Main area of scientific activity: the development of original simple and efficient methods for the synthesis of glycosyl phosphates, polyprenyl phosphates and polyprenyl mono- and diphosphate sugars and the use of such compounds for biochemical research and in medical practice. In recent years he has participated in designing lipid diphosphate sugar based test-systems for investigating bacterial glycosyltransferases with the aim of searching inhibitors of the enzymes as potential antibacterial preparations. Also he develop technological methods for producing polyprenyl phosphates and new original wide-spectrum drugs containing these substances as active ingredients.
