Leonel Pereira was born in Lisbon (Portugal) on 13 February 1966; he graduated from the University of Coimbra (Portugal), where he obtained the degrees of bachelor, master and PhD in Biology and specialty Phycology. He is the author and editor of the Portuguese Seaweeds Website (MACOI). Received in 1998 the “Francisco de Holanda” award (Honorable Mention), and in 2013 the “Sea Award King Carlos”.
