Dr Julian Eason is the Chair of the Department of Neonatology at the Corniche Hospital, Abu Dhabi. He qualified in medicine in 1986 with an MBBS from The Middlesex Hospital Medical School with an intercalated Bachelor of Science in Neuroanatomy and Neuropharmacology. His Paediatric and Neonatal training was in the South of England including the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford, Great Ormond Street, and Guys Hospitals in London. In 1993 he undertook Neonatal Fellowship training at British Columbia Children’s Hospital Vancouver Canada. He also attained a Master’s degree in Health Care and Epidemiology at the University of British Columbia in 1996. He has held Consultant positions in Jersey, Norwich and as Clinical Director of Women’s services Plymouth. He has written and edited a ‘Guide to Infant Feeding’ and contributed chapters to ‘Pocket Essentials of Pediatrics’. He has been the lead investigator for many national and multinational trials and took part in developing the Department of Health ‘Neonatal Toolkit’ in 2009. He was a member of the National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE) Topic Expert Group for Specialized Neonatal Services published in 2010. An avid teacher he has lectured and set up ventilation workshops across the UK and been heavily involved in neonatal transport services development, particularly air transport as he qualified as a helicopter pilot in 1991 and now holds a recently acquired certificate in Aero-retrieval and Transport from the University of Otago, New Zealand. He moved to Abu Dhabi in 2012 to develop Neonatal Intensive Care and Transport Services for the region and he now lectures across the Middle East on his chosen subjects of Newborn stabilization, ventilation, feeding and safe transportation of the high risk neonate.
