JESS H. BREWER set out to get a PhD in Physics in order to gain credibility as a science fiction author, but at Berkeley he learned about muons and became fascinated by µSR. Since graduating in June 1972 he has worked at TRIUMF in Vancouver, Canada. He joined the Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of British Columbia in 1977 and has been a Professor since 1986. In 2011 he retired and was granted Emeritus status at UBC. He still hasn't finished that SF novel, but is still active in research, primarily at the CMMS facility of TRIUMF but also at other µSR facilities around the world.
