Jarmila Duháček Šebestová is an Associate Professor and researcher at the Silesian University in Opava, specifically within the Department of Business Economics and Management in Karviná. With a career spanning over two decades at the university, she specialises in lecturing on social entrepreneurship, business economics, management of innovations, and general entrepreneurship. From 2019 to 2023, she also served as an associate professor at the Moravian Business College Olomouc, focusing on international business.
Her extensive academic portfolio includes multiple degrees from the Silesian University in Opava, including a PhD degree in Business Economics and Management (2007) and her habilitation as an associate professor (2018). Recently, she expanded her expertise by earning a Master of Arts in Science Management from Palacký University in Olomouc (2024) and undergoing coaching and innovative educational training at Tiimiakatemia Global.
Her core research interests focus on the complex field of small business development and regional competitiveness within the European Union. She specialises in social entrepreneurship, particularly investigating crucial financial decision-making and the driving factors behind economic inclusion for individuals with disabilities. Furthermore, her work involves competency modelling through cross-national case studies comparing the skills of business students and owners, alongside research into modern entrepreneurship trends such as “Entrepreneurship 2.0” and the survival analysis of late-career, first-time entrepreneurs.
Associate Professor Duháček Šebestová is an active member of the ECSB network and serves as a working group member for several COST Actions related to migration, integration, and school wellbeing. She has held key roles in various multicultural projects, including Erasmus+ partnerships (OW and EDU4EDU) and research funded by the Technology Agency of the Czech Republic.
