Dr. J. Marc Simard is Professor of Neurosurgery, Pathology and Physiology at the University of Maryland School of Medicine in Baltimore. Dr. Simard received MD/PhD degrees with a focus in neuroscience from Creighton University, did postdoctoral training in biophysics/neuroscience at Universität des Saarlandes, Germany, and completed Neurosurgery residency at the University of Florida, Gainesville. He is a board-certified clinical neurosurgeon with an active practice of vascular neurosurgery, and is an experienced investigative scientist responsible for the discovery of the SUR1-TRPM4 channel, and for initiating the work showing involvement of the channel in several acute CNS diseases.
