Hristo Hinov received a Master degree in Physics in 1967 from the St. Kliment Ohridski University of Sofia (Sofia) with specialization in radio physics and electronics. He joined the Institute of Physics (now the Institute of Solid State Physics) at the Bulgarian Academy Sciences in 1972 to carry out Ph.D. degree in 1980 and D. Sci. degree in 2007. Hristo Hinov is an Associate Professor since 1988. He also earned specializations from the Institute of Crystallography (Moscow) in 1976 and from the Paris University in 1979 and 1987. His most significant contributions are in the sphere of electro-optics of smectics, large-pitch cholesterics and nematics.
