Hamidah Idris is a Senior Lecturer at Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris, Malaysia in Microbiology field. She started her tertiary education at National University of Malaysia where she graduated with Bachelor of Science with Honours (Microbiology) and Master of Science (Microbiology). With the strong interest in bacterial taxonomy, biodiversity and natural products, she attended Newcastle University, UK, where she received her Ph.D in Microbiology in 2016. Throughout her newly build career, she has publications in areas including actinobacterial species description, metagenomics studies and microbial natural products. Experience in doing research that integrate microbiology experiment with different fields including bioinformatics, chemistry, environmental science and statistic allow her to explore more about the unseen microbial world. Research involving bacteria especially from extreme environments has been her passion as there are a lot of questions yet to be answered, including the type of bacteria present in the unravelled environment, role in ecosystem, influencing factors and ability to produce useful substances.
