Professor Chiappelli was born and raised in Europe. He received his higher education in the US (BA, Biology, 1975; MA, Research Methodology & Statistics, 1981; PhD, Educational Psychology, 1986; Post-Doc: Psychoneuroimmunology (Norman Cousins) UCLA 1987-1990, and Clinical and Fundamental Immunology (NIH) UCLA 1988-1990. Dr. Chiappelli received his first 5-year NIH grant in 1992, and, as a research faculty in the UCLA School of Medicine, established his laboratory in the west Los Angeles VAMC (GS-13), before being recruited on a tenure track position at the UCLA School of Dentistry (1994). Dr. Chiappelli, Professor Emeritus Center for the Health Sciences, is now retired from UCLA, but continues to teach biostatistics in the Department of the Health Sciences at California State University, Northridge.
