Dr. Budak completed his Ph.D. in 1994 at the University of British Columbia, then worked for Pratt & Whitney Canada as manufacturing development engineer. He joined Sabancı University in 2000 and founded the Manufacturing Research Lab. In 2003, he was awarded the Taylor Medal by CIRP, and in 2018, he was awarded the Mustafa Parlar Science Award due to his contributions to machining research. He regularly publishes in scientific journals and is editorial board member in several of them.
