Douglas A. Kleiber, Ph.D., is an emeritus professor of Counseling and Human Development Services, Psychology, and Gerontology at the University of Georgia. He received an A.B. in Psychology from Cornell University and a Ph.D. in Educational Psychology from the University of Texas at Austin. He is the author of Leisure Experience and Human Development (Basic Books, 1999) among other works. Among his continuing research interests are coping with negative life events and optimizing developmental transitions. He is a charter member of the Association of Psychological Science and a past president of the Academy of Leisure Sciences.
