Christopher S. Keator, PhD, is a classically trained reproductive endocrinologist. He earned his doctoral degree from the University of Connecticut and then completed postdoctoral training at the Oregon National Primate Research Center. He then shifted his focus to medical education and accepted his first faculty appointment in the Department of Physiology at Ross University School of Medicine. He was recruited by Western Michigan University Homer Stryker M.D. School of Medicine (WMed) to serve as the Founding Basic Science Director of the second-year endocrine-reproductive course in the WMed undergraduate medical curriculum (UME). Shortly after arriving at WMed, he was appointed as the Founding Director of Explorations, an UME component developed to help modern medical students master the skills needed for a lifetime of independent learning. Owing to his extensive animal research with multiple species, he was appointed as the Founding Chair of the WMed Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee, where he has successfully helped the program achieve assurance from the Public Health Services and accreditation from AAALAC. Over the past 15 years he has published peer-reviewed articles on basic reproductive physiology, women’s health, medical education and most recently the administrative challenges associated with the use of animals in research.
