Dr. Chokey Wangmo has a Doctorate in Business Administration from Victoria University, Melbourne and a Master’s in Business Administration, Hanze University Groningen, Netherlands. She has vast working experience in the field of socio-economic development, benefiting the bottom of the pyramid. Since 2004, she has been actively involved in the fields of entrepreneurship, youth employment, credit guarantee schemes, rural development, microfinance and various social welfare programs targeting the economically disadvantaged population in Bhutan. All these programs addressed inequality and poverty while endeavoring to empower the grassroots population to self-reliance and better lives. She has been instrumental in establishing and operating Bhutan Care Credit Ltd. (BCCL), one of the microfinance institutions in Bhutan, in 2018 to provide affordable and sustainable loans to the socio-economically disadvantaged population. She strongly believes in the financial empowerment of the grassroots through easy access to finance to start income-generating activities and employment generation. Most recently, Dr. Chokey Wangmo has led BCCL to implement COVID-19 monetary measures of loan deferment and interest waiver to microcredit borrowers, who have been affected severely by the pandemic.
