Dr. Carmen N. Veloria is an associate professor at Suffolk University in Boston, Massachusetts, where she holds joint appointments in Education and Sociology. She also is currently the Chair of the Education Department, where she oversees both undergraduate and graduate programs in education. Her research, writing, teaching, and community service work focuses on issues of race, ethnicity, and language usage with respect to youth, schools, and community. She speaks on these issues both nationally and internationally. Most recently, Dr. Veloria has been awarded the American Educational Studies Association’s 2019 Critics’ Choice Book Award for the book, Social Justice Education in European Multiethnic Schools: Addressing the Goals of Intercultural Education, co-authored with Cinzia Pica-Smith and Rina Manuela Contini.
