Arkalgud Nanjundaiah Ganeshamurthy, PhD

Arkalgud Ganeshamurthy was born in Hassan District, India in 1957. He lived his childhood with farmers and became passionate about solving farmers’ problems. He earned an undergraduate degree in Agriculture from the University of Agricultural Sciences, Bengaluru and a doctorate degree in Soil Science from the Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana. He served as a teacher for a brief period at the University of Agricultural Sciences, Bengaluru and joined the Agricultural Research Service of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research as a scientist in 1985. Since then, he has served in several research institutes under the Indian Council of Agricultural Research. Ganeshamurthy has been working on horticultural crops for the past 20 years at the Indian Institute of Horticultural Research, Bengaluru. He has published extensively on soil health and the nutritional health of fruit crops. He has also developed several technologies, including the Arka Microbial Consortium, Arka Actino Plus, and the Pomegranate Micronutrient, which manages pomegranate problems relating to nodal blight, wilts and nutritional deficiencies. Ganeshamurthy is a fellow of the National Academy of Agricultural Science, India and a fellow of the Indian Society of Soil Science. He is a recipient of several national awards, including the Golden Jubilee Young Scientist Award of the Indian Society of Soil Science. He has been in research advisory committees for more than a dozen horticultural research institutes, including the National Research Center on Pomegranate in Solapur, India. He continues to work with farmers and has a YouTube channel titled “soulofkrishi.com,” which guides farmers in local language. He is well known among the pomegranate farmers of India.
