Series: Materials Science and Technologies

This book is a compilation of six chapters. Chapter one explores the progress and research trends in computational and experimental tribology of hydraulic, reciprocating, rod and piston seals. Chapter two reviews the history of heat problems in tribology from the founding father, Professor H. Blok, to the present time. Chapter three discusses the known factors and challenges corrosion and wear have on the long-term durability of medical impants on human bodies. Chapter four reviews the integrated wear testing methodology, the integrated wear model, the equations developed for the determination of steady-state sliding distance, wear coefficients and wear rates. Chapter five focuses on friction caused by reciprocating sliding of different scales. In the final chapter, test results are discussed in relation to microscopic evaluation of the worn surfaces. A parallelism between the tribological properties during sliding at different humidity and different temperatures will be demonstrated and confirmed by Raman spectroscopy.
