This book investigates new methods of treating gaseous HCl using Mg−Al layered double hydroxide intercalated with CO32− (CO3•Mg−Al LDH) and Mg−Al oxide. The HCl gas is treated with CO3•Mg−Al LDH to produce Cl•Mg−Al LDH. This compound is then treated with CO32− to produce CO3•Mg−Al LDH via anion exchange, thereby making it available for the further treatment of HCl. Mg−Al oxide can be obtained by the thermal decomposition of CO3•Mg−Al LDH and can rehydrate and combine with anions to reconstruct the LDH structure. HCl is also treated with Mg−Al oxide to produce Cl•Mg−Al LDH. Calcination of Cl•Mg−Al LDH results in the production of hydrochloric acid and reformation of Mg−Al oxide. In addition, this book also investigates the simultaneous treatments of HCl, SO2, and NO with Mg−Al oxide. (Imprint: Nova)
