ABSTRACT

Audiology plays a critical role in the healthcare system, providing essential services for individuals with hearing loss, tinnitus, vestibular disorders, and related conditions (1-3). Given the high prevalence of these issues across various age groups, the expertise of audiologists is indispensable. In Malaysia, the field of audiology has a relatively recent history, with the first professional education program launching in 1995. Herein, the National University of Malaysia took the lead in establishing audiology education in the country by introducing a four-year Bachelor of Audiology degree. This program laid the foundation for audiology education nationally. Both the Inter-national Islamic University Malaysia and Universiti Sains Malaysia have since followed this precedent, both developing their own undergraduate audiology degrees. The collective aim of these institutions is to ensure a supply of qualified audiologists to serve all regions of Malaysia. Importantly, the audiology programs provided by the aforementioned institutions are accredited and are closely monitored by the Malaysian Qualification Agency (MQA) to ensure that audiology graduates possess the necessary knowledge and clinical competency. The implementation of outcome-based education ensures all graduates are impeccably equipped to meet the demands of their chosen industries upon entering the workforce (4).
