ABSTRACT

This case study delves into the effects of hypersensitivity on feeding behavior in pediatric achalasia. Achalasia, characterized by esophageal motility issues, poses challenges like vomiting and reflux, especially in infants. A case of a 3-year-old boy was examined, detailing failed oral feeding attempts, medical interventions, and subsequent hyper-sensitivity issues. A comprehensive assessment revealed delayed language skills, restricted oromotor function, and complete reliance on tube feeding. Desensitization techniques, play therapy, and sensory tools were employed to address hypersensitivity. Positive outcomes included reduced deliberate gagging instances and advancements in blowing functions. The study underscores the importance of managing hypersensitivity for improved feeding behavior in pediatric achalasia cases.
