This book includes five chapters that detail the dynamics of communities of practice. Chapter 1 investigates the formation and impact of communities of practice (CoPs) through structured peer feedback within practicum experiences in two distinct teacher education systems. Chapter 2 explores the role that a network model of CoPs can play in supporting sustainable change efforts, particularly in non-hierarchical organizations. Chapter 3 introduces Lave and Wenger, who introduced the concept of CoPs, and examines the growth and later use of CoPs in higher education beginning with Wenger’s CoPs in administrative and academic development areas. Chapter 4 aims to examine experienced Professional Learning Communities (PLC) facilitators’ perceptions of their role and the challenges they encounter. Finally, Chapter 5 analyzes the crucial, yet often challenging, relationship between schools and families as another evolving community of practice.
