ABSTRACT

Anisakiasis is a parasitic disease caused by anisakis penetrating the stomach or intestinal wall. Anisakis is a parasite designated as a causative agent of food poisoning by the revision of the Food Sanitation Law in 1999. Furthermore, in 2013, items related to parasites such as anisakis and kudoa were added to the list of etiological agents and types in the food poisoning incident form; and anisakis food poisoning came to be counted separately in the food poisoning statistics. As a result, the incidence of anisakis food poisoning and the causative foods have become more apparent, and the number of reported cases of anisakis food poisoning has gradually increased- reaching 469 cases in 2018, more than double the number of the previous year. In this article, we review the articles published in Japan and present the situation of anisakis food poisoning in Japan, and the parasitic status of anisakis in fish and shellfish and discuss specific methods of preventing and coping with infection.
