ABSTRACT

Acute otitis media, an inflammation of the middle ear that causes hearing loss, occurs frequently in children. The complications of otitis media can be extracranial, intra-temporal and intracranial. Luc’s abscess is one of the extra-cranial complications that requires appropriate and timely treatment. In this paper, we describe a challenging case of a 10-month-old boy with history of a recurrent posterior auricular subperiosteal abscess involving the mastoid bone with its clinical presentations, interesting images, and treatment options. The clinical management of Luc’s abscess requires both medical and surgical considerations. High-resolution computed tomography (HRCT) findings are notably useful in the decision to perform mastoidectomy in uncertain cases.
