This book is a compilation of CRS reports on the Small Business Administration’s (SBA’s) Small Business Investment Company (SBIC). The opening report discusses the program’s statistics, structure and operations. The SBA’s 7(a) loan guaranty program is discussed as it is one of the most significant programs aimed at supporting small businesses. Other SBA programs are described later, some of which include disaster assistance, contracting programs and capital investment programs. A program is also discussed which seeks to aid small businesses “owned and controlled by socially and economically disadvantaged individuals”. This collection examines the SBA’s budget as well as recent developments and future trends. Economic research is examined to identify which business models create the most jobs and then analyzed for possible implications for Congress. The book concludes by discussing bills introduced to amend the Small Business Lending Fund.
