Along with household consumption, industrial consumption of different forms of energy is creating hindrances in the global environment. Having a major source of employment in the world, small and medium enterprises (SMEs) can be change-makers in the field of energy consumption by applying energy efficiency practices. Such practices range from the use of energy-efficient production processes to the less use of non-renewable energy and contribute to achieving twin objectives: promoting trade and sustainable environment. This paper contributes to materializing this fact with the help of the system dynamic approach: causal loop diagram (CLD). By the formation of CLD on the basis of past studies this study has shown the need of both internal and external support for promoting energy efficiency practices through SMEs which are at the infant stage at the global level. It suggests for the development of SMEs target for energy efficiency measures and relevant indicators.
