Political socialization is a process of transmitting political values and beliefs and shaping citizens’ political culture. This book uses the case study of the Communist Youth League (CYL) in the People’s Republic of China (PRC) as a case study to highlight the triangular relations between political socialization, political participation and political trust. Political socialization in China is carried out by the CYL in colleges and universities through a variety of activities, such as lectures, concerts, art performances, internships and visits to the countryside to conduct research. All these activities encourage and mobilize the participation of CYL members, who develop their political trust toward the CYL, the Communist Party of China (CPC), and the government. A stronger sense of patriotism is developed in political socialization, while grooming a new batch of young elites who can advance upward to join the CPC in the future. As a result, the stability and legitimacy of the entire political system is enhanced. The process of socialization in China is conducted in a centralist way, while the CYL Committees in colleges and universities try to be more responsive to the needs of young students, including the necessity of developing their interpersonal communication skills, organizational and administrative ability, and their patriotic attitude toward the country. A cycle of the positive relations between political socialization, political participation and political trust persists.
