ABSTRACT

It is a matter of great pride that the 2017 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine was awarded to Jeffrey Hall, Michael Rosbash, and Michael Young for their discoveries of molecular mechanisms controlling the circadian rhythm [1]. A Nobel Prize in chronobiology has long been overdue. This prize was awarded for work on fundamental concepts in nature, recognizing the critical importance of basic science.
