ABSTRACT

An HK$18 billion Research Endowment Fund was established with allocation from the Hong Kong Government. HK$4 billion of the Fund is set aside for Theme-based Research which will support projects on themes of a longer-term nature and strategically beneficial to the development of Hong Kong. A Steering Committee, with membership consisting of the academia, representatives from different sectors of the community and the Government, and the Chairman of Research Grants Council (RGC) of Hong Kong, was set up with the major charge to identify the themes.
