The thermal behaviour of cardboard materials can be optimised by knowing their thermal degradation kinetics. In the present study, thermogravimetric analysis was used for the isothermal kinetic study of the pyrolysis of cardboard waste under argon atmosphere at different temperatures 250, 280, 300 and 320°C. These isotherms were chosen after determining the optimal thermal degradation range of the cardboard. Two kinetic models (single-step and two-step) were used to determine the optimal thermal behaviour of the cardboard waste. The results show that the two-step kinetic model is acceptable. The kinetic parameters, activation energy and pre-exponential factor for the pyrolysis of waste cardboard were determined in both cases. FTIR analysis showed the presence of gases such as CO, CO2 and CH4 in majority.
