The aim of this study was to analyze the morphology and the characteristics of ibuprofen-loaded chitosan microsphere using scanning electron microscope, and to evaluate the ibuprofen entrapment efficiency and drug release. Ibuprofen-loaded chitosan microsphere was prepared using emulsion-solvent method. After preparation, the morphology and its characteristics was analyzed using scanning electron microscope. The ibuprofen entrapment efficiency of chitosan microsphere was evaluated using a formula and Ibuprofen release was determined at different pH gradients. The scanning electron microscopy revealed that ibuprofen-loaded chitosan microsphere appeared smooth and spherical in shape that measured 11µm in size. The drug entrapment efficiency was found to be 99%. A sustained drug release was achieved at pH 5.8. Whereas at pH 7.4, the rate of ibuprofen release from chitosan microsphere was higher. Ibuprofen incorporated chitosan microsphere prepared through emulsion-solvent method has increased drug entrapment efficiency, sustained drug release in acidic pH and therefore it can be considered for in vivo applications.
