ABSTRACT
In 2024, the focus of the World Health Organization (WHO) on tobacco cessation was “Protecting children from tobacco industry interference”. In 2025, the focus is on Unmasking the appeal, by the industry. The WHO and public health advocates such as the International College of Cardiology will join forces to raise awareness about the tobacco industry’s harmful practices on World No Tobacco Day (WNTD) in this year 2025. The theme for 2025 is “Unmasking the appeal: exposing industry tactics on tobacco and nicotine products” WHO (https://www.who.int/news-room/events/detail/2025/05/31/default-calendar/world-no-tobacco-day-2025-un). Although there is decline in tobacco consumption in many educated social groups, the mortality attributed to tobacco intake is unacceptable [2-4]. Several epidemiological studies worldwide have examined the effects of tobacco use on morbidity and mortality, but data are scarce on variations in adverse effects attributed to different modalities of tobacco use [1-3]. This communication aims to find out differences in effects due to various modes of tobacco intake.
