ABSTRACT

Recent opinions from the experts of the EAT Lancet Commission, European Athero-sclerosis Society, and scientific statements from the American Heart Association (AHA) outlined the key principles of a heart-healthy dietary pattern as an adherence tool for Health Care Professionals (HCPs) to empower patients [1-4]. This article focuses on several well-known dietary patterns, including the Indo-Mediterr-anean diet, the Mediterranean, DASH (Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension), vegetarian/ vegan, and plant-based diets. It analyses the adherence by patients to the AHA’s dietary guidelines, which emphasize the consumption of vegetables, fruits, legumes, whole grains, spices, lean proteins, and limited saturated and trans fats.
