ABSTRACT
This study examines the pivotal role of consumer behavior in reducing energy costs through autonomous renovations and the integration of smart home technologies in a duplex residence. Results show that individual efforts, such as upgrading thermal insulation, installing double-glazed windows, and switching to LED lighting, resulted in a remarkable 67.5% reduction in energy bills. Furthermore, implementing home automation to manage lighting, heating, and irrigation led to an additional 10–15% decrease in energy consumption. The research highlights the value of self-directed actions in advancing the energy transition, while also identifying the financial challenges encountered by households due to limited purchasing power. The findings emphasize the need for supportive public policies and financial incentives to make energy-efficient renovations accessible to a broader population, thereby fostering both economic savings and environmental sustainability.
