Ceruloplasmin is an acute phase protein synthesized in the liver, enterocytes and placental cells and belongs to the 2-globulin. It contains amino acids, prosthetic carbohydrates and copper. Its molecular weight is 132kDa. Disorders in its structure or quantity significantly affect health, causing various types of diseases (Wilson’s disease, aceruloplasminemia, etc.) therefore it is also of great diagnostic and clinical importance. Ceruloplasmin is an example of a “lunar” protein that overcomes the concept of one gene – one structure – one function to follow changes in an organism under its physiological and pathological conditions. Due to the use of certain characteristic properties of Cp, it is possible to isolate it from blood plasma. There is a lot of interest in this protein, and a lot of medical and other research is being done on it – there are plenty of articles on the internet on this topic.
