When an economy is fueled by the alcohol industry, which is a powerful and a resource-intense industry, governments who lack technical capacity and financial resources to combat the alcohol industry may fear the economic impact of restrictive alcohol polices. How can a country address the public health concerns from alcohol misuse and abuse? Because alcohol is no ordinary commodity, the public has a right to understand and expect a more enlightened approach to the development and implementation of an alcohol policy.

An enlightened approach of using evidence to inform policies, include key members of the community and target the general population, at high-risk drinkers and at people already experiencing alcohol-related problems. Alcohol is a drug and a currency, making it a unique commodity. In this book, the authors present research on alcohol and advertisement, alcohol related traffic accidents, suicidal behavior and many more aspects of alcohol use and misuse in the Caribbean area.
