ABSTRACT

The purpose of the work is to assess the influence of raw oil, biodiesel blends of Sunflower oil Methyl Ester and their nano ZnO emulsion on the tribological behavior. Along with the dry condition, seven more lubrication conditions like pure oil, oil and biodiesel in the proportion of 80-20, 60 40, 80-20 and 60-40 proportions with 0.5% of nano sized ZnO and 80-20 and 60-40 proportions with 0.2% of nano sized ZnO are tested on to assess the rate in surface wear, Resistance force of friction and its coefficient at three loads (1, 3 & 5 kgf) and speeds (300, 500 & 700 rpm). The lubricants added with nano scale particles have exhibited great potential in improving the tribological characteristics. The higher rate in surface wear, Resistance force of friction and its coefficient were improved with base oil (sunflower oil) in comparison with in dry conditions. ZnO nanoparticles added lubricants have exhibited further improvement in the above parameters.
