Agricultural residues have various forms. These can primarily be divided into two major groups, i.e., crop residues and residues from the agricultural industry. There are two more categories of agricultural residues, namely field residues (stem, seeds, stalks, etc.) and process residues (husk, bran, bagasse, molasses, solid fruit wastes, peels, and stones and sludge). Agri-food processing residues are end-products emerging after food and industrial processing operations of cereals, pulses, fruits, vegetables, bulbs, roots, and tubers, and from their treatment and disposal. This book has 16 chapters divided into four sections that deal with the bioprocessing of various agricultural and food processing wastes into biomaterials and biofuels. Section I has one chapter (Chapter 1) that covers an overview of agricultural waste valorization and circular bioeconomy; Section II (Chapters 2-8) delves with different biomaterials such as biochar, cellulose, biocomposites, and a few case studies such as biomaterials from cereal straws, agave and allied fibers, fruits and vegetable peels, palm oil processing waste, etc; Section III (Chapters 9-15) delves with various biofuels, i.e. bioethanol, biobutanol, biodiesel, biogas, and biohydrogen and Section IV (Chapter 16) deals with digitalization and AI applications in agri-waste valorization processes.. We hope this book will help our readers increase their knowledge and guidelines on the use of agricultural waste, thus contributing to sustainable development.
