Research has suggested consistently that adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) are related to a variety of difficult outcomes in adulthood, including medical illnesses, mental health concerns, poor parenting, and criminal offenses. To mitigate the impacts of ACEs over the course of an individual’s lifetime, implementing preventative programs and/or other interventions at the earliest possible point in development is important. This volume explores several interventions meant to offset ACEs. First, Renk and colleagues examine the utility of infant-toddler problem-solving court programs for addressing ACEs in the youngest of citizens. Next, Legerski and King explore methodological and practical issues in assessing and treating childhood adversity. Then, Sani and Pereira discuss children’s rights to participate in decisions regarding residential care. Finally, Silini examines connections between childhood adversity and tobacco use in Tunisian adolescents. It is hoped that these chapters will be helpful to professionals who seek to mitigate the impact of ACEs and improve well-being in children over time.
